A few words about Kathy Way


I have worked for over 25 years in the fitness industry and in 2004 became interested in Pilates after having worked alongside American Pilates Instructors in a famous health and fitness centre (Then called “Spa Deus“ owned by Christina Newburg) in Chianciano Terme, Tuscany, I decided to study with a professional internationally recognized Pilates School. After attending different Pilates School introductory courses including Covatech Pilates (Italy) I finally chose STOTT PILATES.

I obtained the STOTT PILATES certification in 2006. I am certified in STOTT PILATES matwork and reformer, and trained in STOTT PILATES Cadillac, chair, arcs and barrels. I have since attended numerous update workshops and specialist courses including Injuries and Special populations, and continue to do so. As well as having worked in Pilates studios in Milan, I also had my own pilates studio and taught pilates during the summer months in the Hotel Hermitage, Island of Elba.

My clients range from teenagers to 80 year olds and from post-rehabilitation clients to dancers and athletes.

I have taught and in fact introduced Pilates to a number of osteopaths, chiropractors and kinesiologists from different countries, and have collaborated with osteopaths and physiatrists in Italy, where I lived for many years.

I was personal Pilates Trainer to Letizia Moratti (ex-mayor of Milan) and daughter Gilda Moratti and son Gabrielle Moratti from 2008-2010.

It was my particular interest in Pilates as post – rehabilitation that drew my attention to the Delos Postural Proprioceptive System in 2009. In 2010 I trained and became a Delos certified Expert and in 2013 a Delos Certified Advanced Expert.

I am a very attentive and precise instructor. I have extreme passion for my job and find great satisfaction achieving positive results with my clients, whether they are recovering from injuries or improving their general fitness. I love to see postural improvement happening before my eyes! I believe that a combination of Pilates and Delos is a perfect solution to preventing injuries, improving athletic performance or general daily activities, improving balance, stability, and posture.

I speak fluent English and Italian, good Spanish and basic French.

In July 2010 after a few monthly episodes of déjà vue and strange smells, strange taste, flashing lights followed by bad headaches… whilst I was personal training…and after tests and MRI scan …I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was 5.5cm and pushing on my hippocampus, practically half of my brain was being crushed.

When the neurosurgeon told me there was I risk that I could remain paralysed, the tears flooded down my cheeks. My whole life and profession was sport and movement.

Although my operation was seen as quite urgent, I had to wait one month for my operation and it was a tough apprehensive wait.

I did Pilates at home every day for the whole month before my operation; it helped me to focus my mind and made me feel strong and in control. I wanted to win.

My craniotomy operation was 9 intensive hours. Luckily my tumour proved to be benign.

I came out of intensive care after one and a half hours.

My recovery in hospital I was told was “excellent”. In fact I was nicknamed “extra-terrestrial”

I thank this to Pilates for helping to keep my mind and body strong and in control.

I thank my neurosurgeon every day when I wake up

And I am extremely happy and lucky to be here, fit and healthy, and to help others by teaching them Pilates and sharing its benefits with them.


Delos Postural Proprioceptive System


15 years of scientific research to understand the mechanisms which control movement in depth.....

This Revolutionary piece of equipment, invented by Professor Dario Riva M.D (Turin, Italy), President of the International Society of Proprioception and Posture, is a technology and methodology for analysing, training and rehabilitating of the control system of inner balance system and movement and for the prevention of functional deficits.

Tests of short duration and easy application measure visual dependence, proprioception, the visual-proprioceptive system, the activation of the vestibular system and possible precautionary strategies.





The Delos Equilibrium Board


Visual tracking of the micro-rocking of the point of support is registered on the computer data. Its exclusive rocking movement, combined with the sub-cortical visual tracking in real time, creates conditions of instability capable of activating high frequency proprioceptive flows. It trains the nervous system to interpret the proprioceptive signals (reviving the efficient proprioceptive reflexes) in a correct and rapid way.





The Delos Assistant Desk


The Delos Assistant Desk provides measurement of the "precautionary strategy" i.e the sensors on the hand bar register information on the computer when the subject has to place their hands on the bar to control their loss of balance.




The Delos Vertical Controller


Postural reader that measures the subjects level of stability in static and dynamic, monopodalic and bipodalic conditions. It records and visualises in real time the movement of the frontal and sagittal planes in relation to the vertical axis. This information is registered on the computer. It is applied to the sternum or other body segments as necessary.


Pilateens


“Text Neck” (caused by overuse of mobile phones etc.) is a growing problem for youths and adults, but poor postural habits learned in adolescence can have long lasting neck and postural problems. If your teenager has bad posture, back or neck pain, it’s important to correct it NOW.  Pilates for teenagers will specifically target posture, alignment, core strength, coordination, balance and flexibility. It can help teens gain awareness of their body, improve their movement function and strengthen and tone muscles, which will lead to greater self-esteem. It also will help to improve their athletic performance.
